Westfield faced off against Mount Olive in a Cal Ripken State game tonight and in what was a rematch of a game that was played between the two teams just a week earlier in the Basking Ridge tournament. The 1st meeting between the two teams saw Westfield win on a walk off grand slam. Tonight's outcome was also decided by the long ball -- actually many of them -- but unfortunately for Westfield, this time they were all off of the bats of Mount Olive players. Westfield held leads of 2-0 and 4-2 early in the game, but the Mount Olive bats were hot and they went onto hit 1/2 dozen home runs in a mercy rule shortened game.
Next up for Westfield is a Central Jersey Baseball League game against Mountainside on Thursday at 6:00 PM at Gumbert #2.
