Since this is a blog about baseball, I thought it appropriate to take a moment to reflect on the larger community of baseball that saw the passing of two iconic figures in the MLB, Bob Sheppard and George Steinbrenner. Whether you are a Yankee fan or not, you undoubtedly know the "Voice of God" Bob Sheppard, THE voice of Yankee Stadium and the NY Giants and you probably know more than you ever wanted about the often-hated, but never copied George, aka "The Boss." Their contribution to baseball is certain, but more important may be some of the pearls of wisdom they left behind that say more about living than about the sport of baseball, itself.
Bob Sheppard once said that he strived in his life and in his career to be dignified, accurate, and to simply "get it right." And Steinbrenner offers this piece of advice: Work as hard as you ask others to. Strive for what you believe is right, no matter the odds. Learn that mistakes can be the best teacher."
"Your attention please, ladies and gentleman......"
Baseball will miss Bob Sheppard.
