White Defeats Cranford 9-2 in Game 2 of K of C Tournament
Westfield White got strong defense and pitching and timely hitting in defeating Cranford by the score of 9-2. The Cougars jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the 1st inning on 3 singles and a Westfield throwing error. Westfield answered back to tie the score in their at bat in the 1st. White got two runners in scoring position when Chris Rinaldi singled and Devin Anderson fought off several pitches from Cranford’s hard throwing Donohue before drawing a walk. Following a double steal, Hopper Murray laced a line drive into left center field for a 2 run double.
Westfield added one run in the 3rd when Chris Boutsikaris singled, stole 2nd and scored on a Scott Tupper RBI single. The scored stayed 3-0 until Tupper knocked in Michael Mobarakai and Brett Robertshaw, who both singled, with a 2 RBI single of his own that made the score 5-0. White tacked on 4 more runs in the bottom of the 5th as a result of timely hitting by Chris Varano, Michael Friel and Mobarakai.
Mobarakai and Rinaldi each threw 3 innings, holding Cranford to 5 hits and striking out 5 Cougars. Friel made 2 incredible defensive plays with diving plays in center field and at shortstop.
