Westfield Beats Cranford 4-0 in K of C Semis

Westfield played Cranford for the 2nd time in 2 days and it turned out to be another exciting game. Michael Friel threw 3 innings, Chris Rinaldi pitched 2 and Michael Mobarakai closed out the final frame to preserve Westfield’s 2nd consecutive shutout. The trio was aided by some great defense, including a text book relay to the plate on a base hit to center field in the 2nd inning. Centerfielder Scott Tupper charged the ball aggressively and threw a strike to SS Rinaldi who turned and fired the ball to catcher Devin Anderson who blocked the plate and applied the tag. The play took Cranford out of the inning and was instrumental in keeping the Cougars off the board.

Westfield jumped out to a 3-0 lead with 3 runs in the 1st. Chris Varano and Devin Anderson had key hits to fuel the rally. Brett Robertshaw, Michael Mobarakai, Hopper Murray, Nick Mele and Owen Monaghan all had big hits and Chris Boutsikaris hammered a line drive into the right center field gap for a run scoring double.

The win puts Westfield in the championship game on Monday at 11 AM vs the winner of Westfield (Murray) and Greenbrook.
